The Reformation Symphony was composed in 1830 for the 300th anniversary of the Confessio Augustana, the founding of the Lutheran confession of faith. In the fourth movement, Mendelssohn quotes, elaborates and varies artfully the Luther-chorale Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott [God is our fortress], erecting a musical monument to the reformer Martin Luther. After an initial confl icting reception, the Reformation Symphony meanwhile is established fi rmly in the concert repertoire. EB 8058 is intended for performances with organ. It can also be used for the preparation of the chorus and soloists for performances with orchestra.

With regard to the anniversary of the Reformation in 2017, this version for solos, choir and organ by Torsten Sterzik originated to pave the Reformation Symphony's way into the church as well, restoring the text to Luther's chorale in the fourth movement and additionally including the third movement, its arioso solos being sung by a soprano and a tenor solo.

In Decorum volgt na een verrassende, virtuoze inleiding een speels leggiero thema. Hier wordt in een dynamische contrastwerking de houtgroep afgewisseld door tutti-spel. Aansluitend komt een melodische lijn aan bod met triolenen gepunteerde figuren als opvallendste ritmische kenmerken. Het triodeel etaleert een nieuw thema waarin het zestiendenotenbeeld de overhand krijgt. Met een markante grandioso slotreprise wordt deze concertmars afgesloten. Decorumis een bijzonder aanstekelijke compositie voor zowel muzikanten als publiek.

In Decorum folgt auf eine überraschende, virtuose Einleitung ein verspieltes, leichtes Thema. Hier wechseln sich die Holzbläser mit Tutti-Passagen ab, wodurch ein dynamisch kontrastiver Effekt entsteht. Danach tritt eine Melodielinie, mit Triolen und punktierten Motiven als auffälligste rhythmische Merkmale, in den Vordergrund. Das Trio präsentiert ein neues Thema, in dem die Sechzehntelnoten die Oberhand haben. Eine ausgesprochen erhabene Reprise beendet diesen Konzertmarsch. Decorum ist eine äußerst attraktive Komposition für Musiker und Zuhörer.

In seguito viene evidenziata una linea melodica nella quale le terzine e motivi incisivi costituiscono l’aspetto ritmico più sorprendente. Il trio sviluppa un nuovo tema e accompagna verso il grandioso finale. Decorum è un brano che esecutori e pubblico troveranno molto accattivante.
