Edited by Robert King and published by Alphonse Leduc 70 Studies for B flat Tuba – Volume 1 by Vladislav Blazhevich contains the first 42 studies out of 70. These studies do not correspond to a method for Tuba and it is generally understood that 70 studies are actually inspired from another piece of work from Blazhevich: 'Clef Studies for Trombone' even though 13 of these 70 studies did not appear in it. They were not transposed for Tuba but adapted for this instrument. These studies have become part of the basic teaching methods and these books are some of the most-mentioned studybooks for Tuba which became very popular. While they help to develop Tuba techniques they can be used by different age ranges and different skill ranges. Vladislav Blazhevich (1881-1942) is a Russian Tuba player conductor and professor. He was also an incredible composer who created many methods for Wind instruments as well as concerti studies and musical pieces. Robert King (1914-1999) is an American editor who was specialised in Brass composition. He created the 'Brass Player’s Guide' in the 1950s and developed a strong relationship with Alphonse Leduc Éditions.

Specifically tailored for each instrument, Skilful Studies introduces the concept of phrasing by suggesting suitable breathing points and takes the player into new keys with extended instrumental ranges. Etudes-78 Studies for Tuba were composed by Boris Grigoriev (1906-1978) a Russian Trombonist who trained many professional Tuba players. Requiring some mature technical knowledge these etudes would benefit to advanced students to professional players. Quite lyrical and with a strong Russian influence these studies have a low register work and cover all keys moving progressively to sharps and flats. American composer trombonist conductor and teacher David Uber (b. 1921) is a virtuoso performer on the Trombone as well as a popular music professor. His Concert Etudes remain significant for Tuba and Bass Trombone players. Uber's Concert Etudes were compiled in 1984 and address advanced musical techniques including unusual time signatures complex rhythms accidentals variations in performance directions breath control unusual intervals complex key signatures ornamentation and articulation amongst other aspects. for Tuba Bass Saxhorn or Bass Trombone and Piano-To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Thème Varié for Tuba Bass Saxhorn or Bass Trombone with Piano accompaniment is an exquisite and unique addition to the repertoire. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1957 Bozza's Thème Varié reflects the composer's ability to compose for a variety of instrumentations. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistenly sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'
