Nostalgie Op.78 for Guitar solo by the Danish composer Poul Rovsing Olsen (1922-1982). Composer's programme note: Nostalgie was composed in December 1976. In the four movements of the work the listener is confronted with music which flirts with recollections of not far distant albeit bygone times. The lyrically dramatic introduction is followed by a toccata, a Spanish dance, then a waltz. At times we are close to the past, then we are suddenly drawn away from it. The music is infatuated, ironic, nostalgic. Nostalgie is dedicated to Erling Moldrup. Poul Rovsing Olsen (Lerchenborg Music Days 1978).

Alapa-Tarana Op.41 for Mezzo-Soprano and Percussion was composed by Poul Rovsing Olsen in 1959. Programme note: I was encouraged by the singer Jolanda Rodio to write a piece for mezzo-soprano and percussion. In my mind the idea immediately awoke associations of Indian or Arab music, in which the combination of drums together with either an instrument or voice is very common. In a solo performance (as opposed to choral and ensemble performances) the piece is called a raga or a macam. A raga or macam is a scale and at the same time a number of melodic formulas. Further more, it is a spiritual concept, a specific raga or macam expressing a specific emotion. My piece isnot based on any traditional Indian raga or Arab macam. The raga in my piece is entirely my own invention. The title is derived from Indian music, an ''Alapa being the first, unaccompanied part of a raga. Traditionally, in the Alapa the characteristics of the raga are first presented improvisationally, without strict metre, followed by a section in which the drums set in. The latter can have various forms. I have chosen a variation form called Tarana. The initial and prevailing theme is from the song Det Fagreste Trae with lyrics by Ursula Andkjaer Olsen and music by me. To this song I also owe the title of the piece. The melody in bar 187-217 is quoted from a pearl diver song from Bahrain, recorded by the composer and music ethnologist Poul Rovsing-Olsen. Peter Bruun.

The Planets, op. 80 for mezzo-soprano, flute, viola and guitar, was composed in spring 1978 and given its first performance on 30 July the same year at the Lerchenborg Music Days. The occasion which led to the composition of the work was the 50th anniversary of the finding of a block book from the second half of the 15th century with texts on the planets. The inspiration came from Louise Lerche-Lerchenborg, who organised the Lerchenborg Music Days, and the work is dedicated to her. In connection with the concert at Lerchenborg, Poul Rovsing Olsen wrote the following about his opus: The Planets derives from the block book found in Lerchenborg's library in 1928. Seven fine, coloured drawings tell of the seven celestial bodies which in many European languages have given the weekdays their names. Each drawing is accompanied by a Latin text, under which there is a two-line dictum that briefly - though very concisely - gives an account of the characteristics of the children who belong to that particular celestial body. And these concentrated portrayals form the basis for the music. In the music I have attempted to give indications of my own experience of the particular power and nature characterizing each one of the heavenly bodies, just as I have allowed this cycle of planet songs to pass like a journey through the ethereal realms with motifs that appear, are repeated, are varied and disappear (but only so as to be replaced by new ones), until we finally return to the point of departure. The introduction - Aether - is purely instrumental. Two of the planets - Venus and Luna - are female; in the music written for them small (Indian) cymbals are used that are also present in Aether..
