The text of this captivating piece for organ, SATB choir, and assembly was written in response to a call for new hymns on peace and justice. It progresses from Christ’s sacrifice, through our worship, to our call to offer faithful service to the poor, homeless, and the hungry. A beautifully written a cappella section leads seamlessly into an organ interlude before the return of the choir with added descant. The assembly part is optional.

About Suzuki Method
The Suzuki Method is based on the principle that all children possess ability and that this ability can be developed and enhanced through a nurturing environment. All children learn to speak their own language with relative ease and if the same natural learning process is applied in teaching other skills, these can be acquired as successfully. Suzuki referred to the process as the Mother Tongue Method and to the whole system of pedagogy as Talent Education. The important elements of the Suzuki approach to instrumental teaching include the following:an early start (aged 3-4 is normal in most countries); the importance of listening to music; learning to play before learning to read; -the involvement of the parent; a nurturing and positive learning environment; a high standard of teaching by trained teachers; the importance of producing a good sound in a balanced and natural way; core repertoire, used by Suzuki students across the world; social interaction with other children. Suzuki students from all over the world can communicate through the language of music.

Rhythm is the most essential element in music - without rhythm, we have only random noise. But in organized patterns of beats and silences, the pulse of music springs to life. While it can be easy to mimic rhythms by ear, correctly counting note values and subdividing according to meter are frequently underdeveloped skills. Rhythm exercises alone can be tedious and uninspiring, but when presented in a familiar melody, patterns become easy to recognize and remember. This book presents common rhythm patterns in various time signatures, beginning with the most basic and progressing toward syncopation and odd meter. Each rhythm is introduced with a simple open string warm-up or scale, then put into practice with songs from all over the world. Unison melodies for violin, viola, cello, and bass stay in easy keys and ranges so the player can focus on the rhythm without other technical challenges. Instrument books can be used in the individual lesson setting with a separate piano accompaniment book. Or, a conductor score is available for use in the string orchestra classroom. Included piano accompaniment tracks provide a fun and helpful play-along experience. Explore the world of rhythm and song as you embark on the journey toward independent musicianship!

Learning to play chamber music is an important milestone in the music student’s journey. Playing with a teacher or friend helps develop rhythmic independence, intonation, listening skills, and sense of pulse that are vital to playing in an ensemble. These progressive duets offer beginning and developing players the opportunity to play along with others, or with the helpful support of the teacher in a lesson. Each duet adds new techniques and challenges that align with the natural advancement of lessons, moving from easy rhythms and keys to staccato bow strokes, slurs, accidentals (low or extended finger patterns), and more complex or independent rhythms. While the melody remains in the top line, musicians can alternate playing the melody as all efforts have been made to keep both parts at a similar difficulty level. This book features familiar melodies from traditional, folk, and Classical repertoire including tunes that many string teachers will recognize from Suzuki books. Appropriate for recitals or even small group concerts, there are 30 selections of different tempi, styles, and keys for variety, while remaining in string-friendly ranges. Each duet is one page or less in length, ensuring an immediate sense of success for young players. The perfect supplement to method book exercises and solo repertoire.

The second volume of the series includes Henry Baker, Albert Bayly, James Montgomery and John Newton. Hymn lovers will wish to congratulate Bernard Braley on his successful production of Hymnwriters 2, the second volume of biographical material of distinguished authors of hymns. The dust jacket tells us that this book is first of all just to be enjoyed for the reading of it and without doubt much enjoyment is offered to the reader. The author has amassed a remarkable amount of detail concerning four hymnwriters, and, as in Hymnwriters 1, there is a main narrative section on each page with marginal columns and separate boxes for interesting references and quotations.
