Dans la deuxième « En hommage à Villa-Lobos », qui se veut toute en effleurements, seuls les crépitements des trilles du violon viennent rompre par instants le murmure des bariolages. Lorsque Elsa de Lacerda et Pierre Solot m'ont commandé une pièce pour violon et piano qui devait s'inspirer de chants protestataires ou révolutionnaires, j'ai d'abord pensé à écrire des variations sur l'un des gospels célébrant la lutte pour l'émancipation de la communauté afro-américaine. Cependant, j'ai finalement choisi Untemationale comme matériau de base, matériau qui m'a paru d'autant plus riche qu'il ne se fonde pas sur un thème unique mais en combine plusieurs. La pièce comprend trois mouvements pouvant être joués indépendamment. Je l'ai intitulée Tabula rasa, en référence aux fameuses paroles « Du passé faisons table rase » et aussi comme un clin d' ?il ironique au mot d'ordre avant-gardiste des compositeurs des années 1950 proches de l'École de Darmstadt. Le premier mouvement est construit sur le balancier légèrement claudiquant du clavier ; tel un tintement de grelots, il accompagne le thème de l'Internationale travesti en berceuse. Le deuxième se caractérise par son dynamisme et des harmonies claires ; en un dialogue mouvementé, piano et violon conversent sur des rythmes incisifs. Quant au troisième, il déroule une série de variations, tantôt énigmatiques tantôt consolatrices, qui jouent sur des canons rapprochés entre les deux instruments ; allusion au compositeur estonien Arvo Part, auteur d'une célèbre Tabula rasa, je m'y suis permis des imitations de cloches dans l'esprit des effets de tintinnabulation qui lui sont chers.
