'Close Harmony' offers unaccompanied arrangements of a variety of well-loved songs from the 1920's to the 1970's. Performances should work equally well with choirs or just four voices. Arranged by Nicholas Hare for SSAA. Helpful performance notes are included for each of the songs and the arrangements are notated on two staves for easy piano rehearsal.

Regina caeli. for SSAA unaccompanied. This Marian text for Eastertide, Regina caeli, was set four times by Morales. This setting for four voices was first published in the Spanish composer's 1543 collection and notated in high clefs.

TaReKiTa. for SSAA unaccompanied TaReKiTa is a refreshing concert piece that effortlessly fuses the Hindustani (North Indian) and Western classical music styles. The composer's scats are combined with a fast triple metre, vocal slides, andcaptivating melodies built on the Jog raga.

Tipitin. Written by Mexico's first well-known female composer, María Grever, this vals Mexicano (Mexican waltz) makes a charming a cappella work for outstanding choirs. The textured setting offers well-conceived choral parts throughout, sometimes using lower voices to provide a dance-like underscore for the lilting melody. A full translation and pronunciation notes aid in the understanding and mastery of an entirely Spanish text, which recounts a story of new love. Feature an agile soprano on the jaunty descant near the end.

For Children's and Female Voices. Béla Bartók Complete Critical Edition (Z. 15009), this volume includes Bartók's complete works for children's and female voices. The lyrics in this Urtext edition are in the original languages, but literal English translations are provided in the appendix, which also includes English versions of those of the 27 Two- and Three-Part Choruses that were authorized by the composer.The edition is complete with an informative preface (in Hungarian, English, and German) and detailed Editorial Comments (in Hungarian and English). The Comments give an overview of the textual, folk-music, and compositional sources, and provide detailed information on the performance practice of Bartók's choral works. I Wonder as I Wander. Already a haunting melody, this setting is even more captivating with the addition of the oboe obbligato. Although piano can always accompany adequately, the use of harp furthers the mystic sonorities. This is a stunning Christmas concert selection of medium difficulty.
