Many believe that even if Johannes Brahms had not composed his German Requiem the Song of Destiny would still have placed him among the first rank of composers for Orchestra and Chorus. Shorter than the Requiem the Song of Destiny is composed in three movements for SATB Chorus on an unfinished work by Friedrich H lderlin. The work is widely loved and frequently performed and recorded.The Rev John Troutbeck the translator of the German original into English for this edition was a minor canon at Westminster Abbey as well as a gifted linguist who created translations of works for most of the great Choral works of the 19th century. Several of his translations havepersisted as the only English versions of their works for more than a century beyond his death in 1899.

Whitbourn has also had a very close relationship with the BBC since his beginnings as a composer, working with them on three pieces within The Choral Collection. Eternal Rest and Give Us The Wings Of Faith were both composed specifically for television broadcast, the former (in its orchestral form) was played for the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002. His longest work, for which he is most famous, is a setting of text from'the Diary of Anne Frank'. There Is No Speech Or Language comes from this work, taking its text from other sources, but that still maintain the beauty and tragedy of the wider piece. Blow The Wind Southerly is a Northumbrian traditional early 19th century song possibly with words from a much older source a haunting tune that has been recorded over the decades by many singers among them famously Kathleen Ferrier in the middle of the 20th century as well as Nana Mouskouri Bryn Terfel Leslie Garrett Andreas Scholl and others. Cameron evokes the unending wind of the sea and the endless waiting of thesinger with programmatic ‘blow’ and ‘blow wind’ Vocal accompaniments to the melody line. He postpones full Choral statement of the melody until the final verse then lets the wind finish the work. Dyson's sumptuous choral epic of 1938 subtitled ‘A Cycle of Poems’ charts man's journey through life and the afterlife using a collage of English poems. His compositions include a symphony in G major a violin concerto and a number of other works many of them for choir. Apart from his musical career Dyson was involved with the military during WWI his handbook on grenade-fighting techniques became the standard Army text for many years.

Anton Bruckner's Te Deum - a high point in the composer's output and one of the most important works of the sacred choral repertoire in the 19th century - is now available in a modern, scholarly edition. The Carus edition draws on both the two sources regarded as important, the autograph score and the first printed edition, with careful consideration given to variant readings. And so a music text has been prepared which reflects the composer's intentions as closely as possible. Great emphasis has been placed on a clear-to-read layout of the full score pages, as well as excellent legibility for the parts, which are available on sale. With current performance practice in mind, the clarinet parts are notated in B flat instead of A, corresponding with the first printed edition.
