Malcolm Arnold wrote this little fantasy in the early 1960s as a present for his children Katherine and Robert to play together. Even as a miniature it has many of the hallmarks of the Arnold style such as the evocative melodic writing together with the occasional dark dissonance. It was written at a time when Arnold was deeply into film music. Perhaps this is why in the famous film Whistle Down the Wind the main theme is for flute/piccolo and turns out to be not entirely dissimilar to the theme found in this fantasy.

Composed by Armando Ghidoni Lirico Jazzy Duo is a duet for Flute and Clarinet. Lasting 8’46 minutes it is really melodious and was commissioned by Carine and Gilles Swierec from the duet “Attention Deux Vents”. It was composed in 2007 and would be perfect for upper intermediate level and above. Written in a jazz style it is divided in two movements: Adagio and Allegro Vivo the second one being much longer and more lyrical than the first. Armando Ghidoni is a French composer with Italian origins who plays Saxophone and Flute. He has been edited since 1989 by Alphonse Leduc.
