A cappella motet from Stabat mater-Motets is a set of 19 intimate and spiritually uplifting a cappella choral works by Karl Jenkins featuring new pieces and arrangements of a selection of movements from his most popular works including The Armed Man Requiem Adiemus and The Peacemakers. Although scored for mixed choir a cappella most pieces include an optional accompaniment for Piano or Organ.

The a cappella motet 'Alleluja' (2018) is a 'song of longing' which resonates existential need as well as the hope of a profound connection to God. In the beginning which is delicate and motivically very concentrated but metrically deliberately uncoordinated more and more voices gather to sing together until suddenly starting from the bass a violent and rhythmically exalted incantation breaks out. The following fortissimo unison in a high register is the climax of the entire work piece. In the â??Abgesang â? the beginning is taken up but now in a polyphonic and harmonically intensified setting. The end in A major seems like a salvation. The work has been released onthe CD 'Rejoice. Vocal Music by Kay Johannsen' (Carus 83.496/00).

Commissioned by Soli Deo Gloria this 9-minute setting of Psalm 104 is described by the composer as overflowing with the glories of creation earth and the heavens. Glorious Majesty is a work of contrasts with sections performed by both large and small groups of singers as well as shifting moods and harmonies to highlight the distinction between passages in the text that praise God and those that praise God's creation.
