Par SPOHR LOUIS. Louis Spohr?s technically, extremely demanding concertos have long been part of clarinetists? standard repertoire. Like the first clarinet concerto, this second concerto was composed for the clarinetist Johann Hermstedt, probably in the spring of 1810. Critics praised the concerto at its premiere, stating that it was ?undeniably one of the most accomplished works of art of its kind.? Emphasized was also the ?great and brilliant treatment of the solo instrument, combined with a very original orchestra accompaniment, where every part, even the timpani, is obbligato.? The concerto was even then a great success with the audience. For publication, Spohr supplemented the solo part with various ossia passages as simplifying alternatives. These can of course be found in the score as well as in the piano reduction presented in Ullrich Scheideler?s new critical Urtext edition in collaboration with G. Par ALBENIZ ISAAC. A spell-binding exploration of the music of Spain, Fantasía Española features four exciting yet contrasting sections and challenging parts for all players. Three of Spain's most famous composers are represented in this medley arranged by Bob Phillips. The piece begins with an exciting, driving excerpt from 'Asturias (Leyenda)', by Isaac Albéniz, which, though written for piano, is most often heard on guitar. The setting of this section allows the violins and violas a display of virtuosity with its unrelenting rhythmic drive. Beautiful, lyric, and emotional, 'Tango in D,' also by Albéniz, will showcase the musicianship of the entire orchestra. Originally written for piano, the strings will shine in this second section of the arrangement. The third section is the slow and lyric, 'Adelita.' Drawn from the deep treasure of Spanish guitar music and written by the father of classical guitar, Francisco Tárrega, this piece is simply beautiful. The medley concludes with 'Danza Ritual del Fuego' from the ballet El Amor Brujo. Par HAYDN JOSEPH. Only eleven of the over one hundred symphonies by Joseph Haydn are composed in a minor key. Written in the early 1770s, the Symphony Hob.I:52 in C minor bears some similarities to the slightly earlier Symphony in E minor Hob.I:44 (?Mourning?, BA 10988), not only because they both are composed in a minor key but also because they both feature a pair of horns tuned at different pitches. Haydn seems to have experimented with differently tuned horns inspired by an article in Johann Adam Hiller?s journal ?Musikalische Nachrichten und Anmerkungen? of July 1770, which suggested to tune the horns a minor third apart in order to expand the total horn range. While Haydn followed this recommendation just like that in the E-minor symphony, he chose to have the horns tuned a major sixth apart (high C and E-flat) in the outer movements of the C-minor symphony Hob. A l?instar du fameux poème« Canzona di Bacco » de Lorenzo de? Medici, ce chant invite l?auditeur à jouir de la vie, de l?amitié, de l?amour et du vin tant qu?il est encore temps. Ce texte à caractère épicurien contraste avec une mélodie profondément mélancolique, une contradiction qui se trouve explorée dans la présente ?uvre. Après une première partie plutôt tourmentée, la mélodie d?origine est révélée dans une section intermédiaire tranquille et pensive, qui met en exergue plusieurs solistes. Dans le mouvement final, l?atmosphère se transforme et devient de plus en plus exubérante, telle une incantation de Bacchus. La pièce se termine par une dernière affirmation fulgurante du thème originale. from the Symphonic Poem \'Psyché\'. Par FRANCK CESAR. César Franck est un compositeur, pianiste, organiste et professeur de musique. Amour et Psychéest le sixième et dernier poème symphonique du compositeur et fut achevé en 1887. La première eut lieu à Paris en 1888 et fut un grand succès, mais la pièce tomba plus tard complètement dans l\'oubli et ce ne fut que grâce à un minutieux travail de recherche si elle a été reprogrammée dans les salles de concert. L?amour complexe entre Psyché et Cupidon est une histoire originale tirée des Métamorphoses, écrite au IIe siècle après J.C. par Apulée. Le récit raconte les obstacles à surmonter dans l\'amour et leur union finale. Le poème symphonique est divisé en trois parties et implique la présence d\'un ch?ur. Le mouvement qui fait l\'objet de cet arrangement, Psyché et Érosse trouve à la fin de la deuxième partie.
