Par COHEN JONATHAN. 'Blueshift Red' was commissioned by the West Michigan Flute Orchestra, Julie Sooy, director. From the composer: ?We have all experienced a noisy vehicle going by rapidly and hearing a raised pitch as the vehicle approaches and a lowered pitch as it recedes. This Doppler shift manifests itself in light, as well: light from stars approaching us has its frequency raised, shifting it to the blue end of the spectrum; light from receding stars is shifted to the red. The title, then, refers to something passing quickly.' / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Flûtes

Par BASSINGTHWAIGHTE SARAH. Left Behind for Solo Flute (left-hand only) by Sarah Bassingthwaighte. From the composer: 'I was approached with the idea of composing a piece for solo flute using only the left hand. This could be played by someone with a right-hand or wrist injury, or for anyone interested in trying a new flute adventure. My first thought is that the options would be very limited, and then I thought of something Stravinsky said that has rolled around in my head for years: 'The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one's self. And the arbitrariness of the constraint serves only to obtain precision of execution.' He spoke often about the necessity of imposing restrictions to creating great music.' / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière

Par COHEN JONATHAN. Springtide Exaltation for Flute and Piano by Jonathan Cohen. From the composer: 'Springtide Exaltation recalls scampering out of the house into the colors of a promising spring day, reveling in the new warmth, the fresh green appearing on the trees, the exploits of a carefree weekend. Out in nature, we sit in a favorite spot and, closing our eyes, slip into a reverie, the sun and slight breeze nearly coaxing us to sleep. Then, first quietly, then building, we are roused by the voice of adventure; we jump up and sprint with joy, our best friend at our side, into the boundless possibilities of a newborn season.' / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Flûte et Piano

Par LUTZ GREG. Turtle and Rabbit by Greg Lutz for Flute Choir and Narrator. A new take on a familiar story! In regards to the Percussion parts, there are a few ways which they can be performed. Optimally, with a large enough flute choir, one player from each of the involved parts (Piccolo, Flute 2, 3, and 4) would be able to play the parts at the times indicated in their parts. Additionally, a separate percussion part is included and can be played by a single player. Or lastly, they can be considered optional and omitted entirely (of course, not optimal). / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Flûtes

Par XIAO XINZHOU. Duet for Clarinet and Piano 'Subconscioius light' by XIAO Xinzhou. From the composer: 'The word 'subconscious' came from the book 'The Aesthetic Unconsciousness' by Jacques Rancière. The 'light' of this piece comes from an accidental feeling that I try to grasp but is elusive... It seems that neither 'subconscious' nor 'light' can directly feel its concrete existence in music, and the connection between them seems indistinctive or ambiguous. To express the feeling of the relationship between these two concepts in my mind, I used my work to compose a world, deconstructed, extracted and reconstructed the integer multiple harmonics of note D in the writing process, therefore, condensing them into the pitch material of this piece and cast them on the dynamic textures. These textures take a large portion of the whole music, constantly evolving under control, which can be viewed as the intention of grasping something. Simultaneously, I arranged some appearance of harmonic series prototypes to symbolise the light I long to see.' / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Clarinette et Piano

Par VON SCHAUROTH DELPHINE. Six Songs Without Words by Delphine von Schauroth, arranged for flute and piano by Virginia Broffitt Kunzer and Tammie Walker. German pianist and composer Delphine von Schauroth was a contemporary of Felix Mendelssohn and also the dedicatee of his famous Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor. Her Six Songs Without Words were originally composed for piano solo, however, because of the nature of them, it is easy to see how a flute melody can be extracted from each of them. / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Flûte et Piano
