Volume 1-Score with realisation of the basso continuo by Tonelli as well as Corelli’s unrealized figured bass line With a separate Urtext violin partWith a separate unrealized figured continuo partIncludes a supplement with violin embellishmentsAppendices in both volumes with source descriptions and critical commentariesPreludes for keyboard instrument by Tonelli in the appendix of volume 2Arcangelo Corelli the violin virtuoso of his time published his Sonatas for Violin and Basso continuo opus V in Rome in 1700. These sonatas are a compendium of violin playing of his time and laid the groundwork for future violin compositions. Over the years the sonatas have been published innearly 100 editions all based on Corelli’s first edition which contains only the solo violin line above an unrealized bass line. Today the sonatas are well known in numerous modern continuo realizations. However a realization from Corelli’s time by Antonio Tonelli also exists and is presented here for the first time in a modern performing edition. This realization is surprising in that it contains full chords sometimes played by both hands. In addition Bärenreiter’s new scholarly-critical edition includes for the first time many violin embellishments. For the most part they have been found in handwritten documents by Tartini Geminiani McGibbon Dubourg and Roger (from a re-print of the sonatas from c. 1710). These embellishments are presented in a separate booklet which players can place alongside Corelli’s original on the music stand. Complementing this Urtext edition are a historical introduction a critical commentary and an appendix containing preludes to the sonatas for keyboard by Tonelli.

in c-Moll A2:55A, g-Moll A2:56A, a-Moll A2:57AThe Maltzan Collection is a trove of manuscripts made up of thirty for the most part unknown works for viola da gamba in the holdings of the library of Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna?, Poland. Twenty-eight of the works are by Carl Friedrich Abel - including a number of autographs - and one each by Johann Christian Bach and Andreas Lidl. The manuscripts were copied between 1759 and 1789 in England, and purchased there by the then Prussian envoy in London, Count Joachim Carl Maltzan, who brought them back with him to Militsch, Silesia (today Milicz, Poland). In 1945 the manuscripts came into the possession of the library in Poznan. The collection was discovered in 2016 by Sonia Wronkowska, who is also the editor of the ten-volume edition of all the previously unknown works from this collection. The viola da gamba sonatas by Abel in the Maltzan Collection are musically mature pieces that throw a new light on Abel's compositional artistry. For the most part, they pose greater challenges for the player than the previously known sonatas from Abel's time in London. The fast movements are more expansive; the range extends from AA to b ; there are movements with variations and polyphonic passages; unusual keys, such as A-flat Major and E Major, are to be found; and many a slow movement contains a cadenza from Abel's hand. / Viole de gambe / Guntersberg

Mozart's works for Piano duet form the first highlight of this genre which later is only achieved by Franz Schubert. The two early sonatas from the Salzburg period which are particularly suited for music teaching in secondary schools are opposed to three effective compositions from his Viennese period. The present volume also contains the sonata KV 19d the authenticity of which is not confirmed as well as two fragmentary movements dated from Mozart's last years of life KV 357. Robert D. Levin has completed them true to style for practical use taking the limitations of the keyboards of the Mozart Pianos and the composer's personal style into account unlike as in the first edition of ca. 1860. In the appendix there are the two fantasias KV 594 and 608 originally composed for mechanical organ adapted from the earliest arrangements for piano duet published a few years after Mozart's death. In this edition the music text is published in the form of a score for the first time.

When Christa Landon presented the first printed version of her edition of Joseph Haydn's Piano sonatas Haydn's sonata oeuvre was still overshadowed by the works of Mozart and Beethoven. Since then Haydn's sonatas have progressed from the teaching rooms to the concert halls and Landon's edition has played a crucial role in that process. Since the Haydn anniversary in 2009 this 'legendary' edition has been thoroughly revised for over the course of more than forty years new sources have come to light. Questions of authenticity have also been resolved not least because the editorial principles for 18th-century music havechanged considerably. The new edition is published in four volumes the content of each volume being compatible with the volumes of the previous edition. Volume 3 of the new edition comprises the 17 sonatas Hob. XVI:21–32 and Hob. XVI:35–39 contained in Vol. 2 of the previous Wiener Urtext edition including popular works for music lessons such as Hob. XVI:27 35 and 37. In the Notes on Interpretation Robert D. Levin explains important aspects of Haydn's performance practice and with the help of numerous examples shows possibilities to embellish the pauses frequently used by Haydn.
