Benjamin Britten

Benjamin Britten wrote his 'String Quartet in F' in April 1928 shortly after he began lessons with Frank Bridge. He was fourteen at the time and it is thought that this piece was set as a homework exercise by this new teacher.This study score is in four parts.

This fantastic book contains 3 complete suites from Opus numbers 72 80 and 87. Each suite has background information written by Benjamin Britten for a more authentic performance.

Study score for Britten's early and ambitious three-movement work (1932) for Violin Viola and Orchestra brought to light and edited by Colin Matthews for it first performance at the 1997 Aldeburgh Festival.

Portrait No.2 ‘E.B.B’ is taken from Two Portraits for Strings composed by Benjamin Britten. This fantastic flowing Viola solo over soft staccato Piano chords really expresses a range ofgripping emotions.Here it is present in a version arranged for Viola and Piano by Martin Outram  violist of the Maggini Quartet.
