The music of Handel is considered the culmination of the Baroque period of music history, and his Water Music (1717) has endured in popularity for nearly 300 years! Performed from a barge traveling on the River Thames, King George I is said to have liked the music so much that he ordered it repeated several times. Originally three suites each consisting of multiple movements, Johnnie Vinson has skillfully adapted this arrangement for young players using “Alla Hornpipe” from the Suite in D Major, and the “Air” and “Allegro” from the Suite in F Major. Duration: 4:20.

Composed in 1922, the Two Movements - MCMXXII is a piece for two flutes or flute and oboe, clarinet and bassoon by Jacques Ibert. Dedicated to the Modern Society of Wind instruments, this quartet is difficult and is composed of two movements: Allant and?Assez vif et rythme. This really lyrical quartet work is a great piece to play for a concert. Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including Angelique (1926) and Divertissement (1930). He also was in charge of the Accademie de France in the Villa Medicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera.

The theme of love in the first two movements is brought to life by the two pianos with colorful, passionate writing. The final two movements feature the sound of bells---the third movement inspired by cathedrals bells that Rachmaninoff heard as a youngster, and the fourth movement capturing the jubilant sound of Easter carillon.Suite No. 2, Op. 17 was written between 1900 and 1901, and was premiered in 1901 by Rachmaninoff and Alexander Siloti. This virtuosic suite is orchestral in nature and contains four movements. Contemporary British composer Brian Kelly has composed a series of place-inspired suites, including the Cuban Suite and the New Orleans Suite. The Suite Parisienne's four movements suggest the Paris of years gone by - Quartier Latin, Promenade, Memoire, Moulin Rouge - in music that shows a deep understanding of brass instruments and a lively, sophisticated setting of melodies that are almost, but not quite, French tunes. The solistic opportunities for each instrument are generously shared and the three livelier movements make a brilliant frame for the longing tone of the Memoire movement.

The English Suites are an early set of six suites written for harpsichord around 1718-1720. The name English has come from a claim that these works may have been composed for an English nobleman. This very imaginative arrangement for Trombone Quartet by Mr. Burgstahler is appropriate for advanced performers and is in eight movements:Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Sarabande embellished (added by the arranger), Gavotte I, Gavotte II and Gigue. This arrangement can be played in its entirety or even just a few of the movements, still with much satisfaction for the performers.

Written in 2001, this work was conceived by the need to enlarge the repertoire of works for solo cello, an important goal since the repertoire of such works is limited. Most cellists are limited to performances of such well-known solo works as the Suites of Bach, written almost 300 years ago, as well as other classics of the genre by Max Reger, Zoltan Kodaly, Benjamin Britten, Gaspar Cassado, Enric Casals, etc.The intention of the Suite Exotique is to revolutionize the concept of the Baroque suite by transforming the suite into a collection of modern dances, which are both contemporary and widely recognized today. Thus, the dances of the Baroque suite, such as Allemande, Courante, Sarabande are substituted for the Tango, Milonga, Blues in such a way that the traditional formal structure of six movements of Baroque dances is modernized by rhythms and contemporary styles which coexist in the Modern world, but are separate from and do not pertain to those works which are normally considered to belong to the realm of cultured music.Apart from the fusion represented by the mixture of a Baroque genre with modern, urban musical language found in this work, the subtitle exotica is appropriate due to the originality of writing such a work for cello solo. This work allows the interpreter to explore and take full advantage of their technical, artistic and expressive abilities. This work establishes a total symbiosis between the instrument and the evolutionary transformation of its musical language which in turn creates a style adapted to the expressive requirements of the work itself. The specific techniques and qualities of the cello are placed in service of the required style and concept of each movement of the Suite. At the same time those stylistic characteristics are transformed and adapted to the particular characteristics of the cello and taking full advantage of the instruments polyphonic, sonic, aesthetic qualities as well as its timbre. The Suite Exotique was premiered in August, 2003 during the International Music Festival of Ibiza by the Russian cellist Svetlana Tovstukha.
