This essential collection of 100 piano études is divided into 15 units that survey the technical challenges at the early intermediate, intermediate, and late intermediate levels. The early units review technical issues that students experience at the elementary levels, such as five-finger patterns and articulations. The later units introduce more difficult technical challenges that prepare students for advanced repertoire, such as playing ornamentation, octaves, and large chords. Each unit contains between five and ten études written by master composers from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods. Within each unit, the études are arranged in order of difficulty. Each piece appears in its original form - notes have not been added or removed. The composers' original dynamics, tempo marks, phrase indications, and articulations have been preserved. Ornamentation is realized in footnotes. Added measure numbers provide easy reference, and editorial suggestions for fingering and pedaling have been provided. A concise foreword discusses technique at the intermediate levels. Par WILLLIAM BAY. The arts flourished in the Baroque period. Music from that time is still performed worldwide by symphonies, opera companies, choirs, chamber ensembles and soloists on many instruments. The period was characterized by the works of such great artists as J. S. Bach (b. 1685), Handel (b. 1685), Telemann (b. 1681) and many others. These composers defined the rich, ornate and melodic Baroque style of music which we categorize in the classical realm. There was another genre of music flourishing during this period, and that was the 'common' or folk music style characterized by such composers as Ireland's legendary harpist, Turlough O'Carolan (b. 1670). In composing music for this book the author recreated harmonic and melodic elements of this great musical age, while adding some contemporary twists. To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His 16 Etudes for Trumpet Flugelhorn or Cornet is no exception to the composer's success. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Compiled in 1950 Bozza's 16 Studies addresses advanced features of the Trumpet Bugle and Cornet including complex rhythms articulation chromaticism variations in time signatures breath control phrasing intervals scales and arpeggios amongst other aspects. For all advanced Trumpet Bugle and Cornet players Bozza's 16 Studies are essential to develop technique to a high standard.

Études Modernes for the Flute is a set of sixteen studies by Paul Jeanjean (1874-1928). Composed in 1868 and initially composed for Clarinet these studies would fit advanced players. Each one of these Études Modernes is 3 or 4 pages long and extremely technically challenging. They all require strong attention good endurance and they could be used to prepare the player for combinations of chords and rhythmic figures of contemporary music. Paul Jeanjean (1874-1928) is a French composer known for his clarinet compositions. He also composed ''Vade-Mecum' of the ClarinetPlayer' 'Arabesques' and 'Clair Matin'.
